Fantastic, seriously. Stopped in during Restaurant Week and really enjoyed the place. Food was fresh and flavorful, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the location (patio!) was adorable. I had the tomato caprese (delish) and PETA pasta (peas, asparagus, tomatoes). It was wonderful. My friend's crab cake was good too, but the menu did say cakes, plural... So it would have been nice if she got two. All in all, I'm looking forward to going back. (Ps - BYO - a great plus!)

I don't usually do reviews but I thought this was necessary....we were a party of 4 and 3 of us had the same entree because it sounded delicious. I am writing this because this restaurant COULD be fantastic.... Our waitress Kim was great and the food presentation was nice. The best thing we had was the blue cheese stuffed dates. (We got these because they were out of the pork belly which Kim came back to tell us after she put our order in and we were the last table of the night and we were in at 8 pm.) We also had the volcano shrimp... They were good not great, I'm thinking too much cayenne? The shrimp was cooked perfectly but the sauce was meh. I love hot but hot doesn't mean dulling your tastebuds with hot pepper... :( For the rest of the meal we had the scallops with pappardelle and crab cakes over risotto - all needed ALOT of salt and pepper. Again, items cooked to perfection with not enough seasoning and sauces that were tasteless. So a nice, quaint restaurant but I hope they invest in some spices other than the ones on the hot shrimp. The cooking technique is the hardest part to get correct and that is spot on but the flavoring needs to be improved drastically.

Great specials today! Bleu cheese filled dates wrapped in bacon and fig reduction sauce are are must have again. I was won over by the appetizer alone. Shrimp on goat cheese salad a pleasing lunch entree was enough to share as well as a small crock of chili with sweet delicious corn bread.

Just finished breakfast here and I highly recommend them ! Tucked behind Mal's, this place immediately takes your breath away with its cottage rustic charm! The staff was exceptional and friendly! The food was delicious and the portions were huge! The prices were just right- especially considering it made two meals!! Ps: very cool antique place next door.

Oct 14 2014: went with some girlfriends for dinner. I had the salmon and it was absolutely wonderful. Cooked perfectly. Side dishes delicious as well. Friend got the crab cake and also said it was delicious. Would definitely go back. It's also a BYOB!

Unfortunately under new managment isn't a good thing. We ate there this past weekend and although the outdoor dining is cute, the table clothes were dirty with debris and stains, there was not breadbasket offered and the entrees were almost inedible, especially for the price. My husband ordered a pasta with broccoli($21), the broccoli was obviously prepacked frozen and the "sauce" tasted like unseasoned canned tomatos. My entree was ok, chicken with portabellas, but they were thin sliced mushrooms in what tasted like canned gravy....very disappointing, such a cute place.

Had an absolutely delightful New Year's Eve dinner here last night. The new owners went out of their way to make it a very special evening, including complimentary individual bottles of champagne, new year's hats and a live guitarist for background music. Created a very festive ambiance. The food was equally as enjoyable. Started out with rolls hot from the oven. Salad and mussel appetizers appetizers were both good. Particularly recommend the duck and crab cake. Went with another couple and everyone liked their meal and had a wonderful evening. .the restaurant is adorable and cozy inside. We had a table near the full length window and had a beautiful view of the decorated xmas tree outside. would definitely go back, especially for a special occasion and to take advantage of the beautiful outdoor area in the nice weather.

Went there this past Friday for dinner- everything was delicious, especially the crab soup. My tuna was the perfect temp, pan seared medium rare. We would recommend eating there.

Saturday about 12:45. Outside filled. One party of four inside. We were seated in the back corner of the room. Server was very pleasant; the service was very slow and not efficient. Waited 15 minutes to order and at least 30 minutes to receive two cold salad sandwiches. While very good, the wait was more than should be. Will try again and hope for quicker service.

We went here for dinner on Friday night. The ambience is romantic and a great place for a date night night. Unfortunately, the food did not provide the same feeling. I ordered the Chicken Portabella and thought it was going to consist of the cheese and veggies on top of the chicken with a light glaze. It ended up being the chicken smothered in a sauce that had the mushrooms, cheese and peppers in it. Plus, it was very salty. Oh and it took over an hour to get our dinners (we did not order any salads or appetizers), on a Friday night, after the "rush" had occurred. And the prices were too much for the quality of food being served. We will not be coming back for dinner, but maybe we will try breakfast or lunch at some point.

My rating of 5 stars is for breakfast at the recently re-opened Back Porch Cafe under new ownership, we have not eaten dinner here so we can't rate the dinner menu. The breakfast menu is not huge, but the choices on it are good. I had an omelet and it was very well made and the vegetables in it were super fresh. The potatoes that came with the meal were fresh, not frozen, and very good. My husband had the French toast and he said it was the best French toast he's had at a restaurant, it was very thick fresh homemade bread (his pet peeve is when restaurants make French toast with thinly sliced bread purchased off a grocery store shelf). Presentation of the food on the plate was beautiful. The decor is very neat inside.

This restaurant is under new ownership. Having eaten here two years ago, my wife and I were interested in seeing if new management meant a better experience. In general, if we aren't eating at home, we still want something fresh and incredibly flavorful. The quaint restaurant still decorated with the style of the original owner (except clean). We brought our favorite bottle of Malbec, opened it and perused the dinner menu. It is brief enough to not be overwhelming (and suggested an attention to detail in the kitchen) yet with enough variety to suit most preferences. I was excited to see that I wanted to eat nearly everything on the menu. We started with the Volcano Shrimp and requested that they be as spicy as possible. We also ordered a small house salad with their specialty honey balsamic vinegar dressing. For dinner, my wife ordered the 10 ounce Filet medium rare with mashed potatoes and I ordered the Chicken Portabella with mashed potatoes. Our server, Matt, very clearly knew that there should be an order to a dining experience. He paced our dinner perfectly. Our Volcano Shrimp were unbelievable. Thankfully, Matt knew we would love the sauce and brought us extra rolls to enjoy every bit of our appetizer. I plan to return this coming week and bring home a few more orders of the Volcano Shrimp. It is just too good. Our house salads were bountiful with mixed greens, large slices of cucumber, black olives and feta cheese. I normally don't enjoy balsamic vinegar, but this dressing was perfect. It has to be the honey... Then, dinner came. Our dinners came with a serving of fresh vegetables, the mashed potatoes and then our chicken/beef. My chicken was so incredibly tender that a fork was nearly overkill. The vegetables in the sauce were fresh and delicious. My wife's steak was worthy of a room full of high fives. The Roquefort sauce was incredible. I would have changed plates with her had my own not been just as tasty. [Seriously, just writing this makes me want to get back in my car and order the Filet again.] We finished our dinner with their dark and white chocolate dessert recommended by Matt. This place has experienced a definite face lift thanks to the new owner. We live nearby and intend to return very, very soon.

We had eaten here several years before it changed hands. We tried it again for the first time Saturday night. We eat at many of the local restuarants within 10 mile radius. The decor is charming but we were very disappointed with the food. The service was ok. My husband and I both ordered sirloin steaks. We ordered them medium rare and rare. They were the toughest steaks we have ever had. My husband's steak was smothered in the sauce. That isn't how a dish should be prepared. We should have sent them back, but didn't want to wait another 1/2 hour for a different dinner. Also the rolls were warm but mushy- previouly frozen? Our portabella appetizer was good. I hope the chef buys better quality food and does not smother food in sauces. I wouldn't try this place for dinner again, but possibly lunch in a few months. Skippack could use another very good BYOB.

All I can say is yummy! My husband and I had a great dining experience. We had a great Server named Matt who was very knowledgeable of the menu and when asked for suggestions he was very exact about what he knew would be the best to order. I tend to order and customize what I want and Matt was very accommodating. When the food came out the salad topped with shrimp was amazing. My husband also enjoyed his food and even took home a delicious dessert that was recommended by our Server, it was a chocolate cheesecake. Lastly I have to make mention that it is very cute in there, and they have the coolest window that goes from floor to ceiling, very cool place!

The new management at Back Porch in Skippack, PA has done a great job in re-opening one of our favorite places to eat in Skippack Village. But if that wasn't enough, they made additional improvements and I think they are now a formidable challenge to any fine dining restaurant in the area. Odell is reveling in his new role as manager - greeting guests with his warm smile and contagious laughter. You will see Odell always jumping in and helping to make the evening run smoothly. The wait staff are bringing a new attitude to this restaurant. They are knowledgeable, friendly, warm, and attentive. Such a pleasure! And of course the food!! In the past few months since re-opening, Chef Eric has prepared weekly specials that included delicious soups (sweet corn chowder) and fabulous dinner entrees (veal piccata). Eric is making his individual mark, while meeting the challenge of perfectly preparing the traditional dishes Back Porch is known for. My husband enjoys the roasted duck and says the taste, texture, and flavor are exceptional - best duck he has enjoyed in a long time. I've always enjoyed the sirloin steak, but recently I ate the phillo-wrapped salmon and the tuna steak and I don't know which I like better. Make reservations if you want to eat at Back Porch on a Saturday night, because the word is out - the Back Porch is back!!!

consider me somewhat underwhelmed with all of the solid brunch options in skippack on a sunday morning, i don't think i will be returning to back porch cafe my sister and i arrived at 12, a full hour after we were supposed to (oops), and my cousins were already half-way thru their dishes. to back porch's credit, the chef extended brunch offerings to us, although they were turning over for lunch. my cousins' omelets looked to be very generous and were determined to be 'good', they were out of a few things, so i was limited in choice - i went with the 'eggs bene served with jumbo lump crabmeat'. i was envisioning tender lumps of crabmeat swimming happily in a silky hollandaise...what i received was a just-ordinary crabcake nestled underneath the eggs. luckily, the side salad was really tasty. my sis's french toast with cinnamon apples, bananas and pecans was decent, though. BPC is a byob, so we had a bottle of white open and chilling and a bottle of bubbles for mimosas. when we asked for oj we received glasses of oj. small tip for all you byob brunch places out there - please offer a carafe of oj, preferably freshly-squeezed (i will pay the upcharge gladly) so that the proper ratio of said mimosas remains constant throughout brunch. it was somewhat stiflingly hot in there as well...as if the heat was stuck in winter-mode, possibly not their fault as sunday warmed up to an unseasonable temperature in the mid-to-high 80's...sit outside if you have the opportunity to maybe 2.5 stars??

Went for Valentines dinner. Food was not good. We went a while back and really liked the food. Looked at the menu online and wanted to go back again. Prices in menu online and restaurant were very different. The fillet which was 23 online was 33 when we got their along with every other item having higher prices. Waitress was great. They have two small bottles of champagne complimentary. Had the crab bisque, this was delicious. My wife had dessert and that was delicious. Our entrees were not. I had the sirloin but it was the fattiest piece of meat I have had and I eat steak all the time. The potatoes that came with it had no flavor and I had asparagus. They were over cooked and cold. We told the waitress about the steak and overheard her tell the chef and his response was it is a strip steak. It was difficult to cut and a quarter of it was pure fat. My wife had a crab cake and rice. The crab cake was big, lots of filler and again no flavor. The rice also had absolutely no flavor. Very disappointed in the meal due to the fact it was so good the last time we went. We will not be going back as there are many other BYOBS in the area.

I've been to this cafe maybe 4 times, and the food has been terrific. the service has also always been fairly ok. no complaints. I have loved this place. right next door is Mal's Diner, which is horrible. terrible food, terrible service. The Back Porch Cafe is a gold mine. I've enjoyed the atmosphere, the food, and the service. I've always been here during breakfast/brunch hours...

WOW, I wish I checked my Yelp before going to the Back Porch Cafe. This place had been one of my wife's favorites. We hadn't been back in years, so we were excited to return on Saturday. What a disappointment! As far as the service goes, it was just below "ok". She was nice enough, but she gave this overall vibe that she was just so busy. Now, we can all tell when a place is packed, this wasn't. There was one large party inside, and on the outside it was my wife and i and a party of four. I doubt she was the only waitress for the entire place, and if she was, shame on the owner! We shared the fried goat cheese salad. The goat sheese was the size of a large grape. So small it shouldn't get to be in the descripition. Before we were done sharing the salad when our entres come out. Keep in mind, this place is BYOB, so the wait staff doesn't even have to bother with drink orders. Dinning is about the food, AND the experience. This place failed on both. We are not hard people to please. If you have the chance to dine here, PASS. Not that we would have stayed for dessert if we were offered, we paid the bill and bolted. Not ready for the night to end we stopped at PJ's in Blue Bell. Totally different kind of place. It's a hopping sports bar where our waitress was twice as 'busy', but still provided us a good time. I think I gave her a better tip on a bill a fraction of the price.

A few weekends ago, the hubby and I took the kids to a charming town called Skippack Village. It's tourist central - antique shopping, lots of cafe-type restaurants, and friendly locals. Love this place! We decided to eat at a little restaurant called the Back Porch Cafe. The ambiance was great - little tables scattered outside under a big, wispy tree. Service started out attentive. We ordered our food - the hubs ordered a burger and I ordered the tuna salad (Ahi Tuna...not canned). The place was about 1/4 full...so maybe five other tables, and two servers on duty. We waited about 25 minutes for our food, and when it came out it was very disappointing. Ok, seriously? It was gross. I ordered my tuna medium rare. It came out well done. And if you're familiar with Ahi Tuna, it should be rare...not well. The lettuce underneath the tuna was wilted, soggy and slimy. Eww. I couldn't pay myself to eat it - and I am not a picky foodie. I eat almost anything. The hubby's burger, he discovered, was a frozen piece of meat and wasn't even fresh ground beef. (He knows this because of his 10+ years in the food distribution biz) A "concession stand burger" is what he compared it to. So we choked down as much as we could but, were so disappointed that the hubby decided to speak up about it. Typically, we don't. This is kind of how it went: Server: How was everything? Hubby: Actually, it was pretty bad. My wife's salad was soggy and the tuna was terrible. Server: Well, when you ask for Ahi well done, it dries it out. Me: I ordered it medium RARE. Server: (she looks down at my tuna, mouth drops open...no words come out) Uh huh. Me: And you see the lettuce...? Server: Yeah. (frown) Hubby: And you gave me a frozen burger? Server: No, we make everything fresh here. Hubby: No, this is a frozen burger. Server: No, it's not. Hubby: Yes, it is. Server: No, it's not. Hubby: Yes, it is. (is this server seriously arguing with us?) Alllllllrighty then. You see this is going nowhere. Server: I'll get the owner to come out and talk to you guys. She takes our plates away. We sit there. She comes back with our check and cheerfully says "I'll take that whenever you're ready!" and walks away. The hubs and I sort of stare at each other in shocked amazement. No apology. No discounts. No owner. Ummmm, yeah. I looked on our check (with no discounts) and notice the order says MR under my salad. MR = Medium Rare. This is where my finger comes out....Oh no she di-int! I chased her back to the kitchen - back to the line, while my husband witnessed their "cook" bringing back boxes of food to the kitchen with a burning cigarette in his mouth. Nice. Chefs smoke, I get that. But, um, maybe keep it on the down low when you're transporting your customers' food? Just a thought. The owner was back there, cowaring behind the line. She had no intention of going to talk to us. In the end, we got them to admit that, yes, they use frozen, cheap meat for their burgers. We got the cook to admit he was carrying food with a smoke in his lips, and we got them to admit that they totally screwed up the ahi tuna salad. Any discounts? Nope. Any apology? Nope. (this is what I wanted, mostly) Did I pay my FULL bill. Yep. Would I recommend the Back Porch Cafe in Skippack? HELL no. I've been joking with the hubs, calling it the "Back DOOR Cafe"...because their food tastes like ASS. So my recommendation is to NOT eat here - ever. When even the OWNER doesn't give a crap, you know the place is trouble. Don't ruin your perfectly lovely afternoon at the Back Door Cafe. Update on 3/20/12 -- I just received a Yelp message from the Back Porch Cafe people and wanted to share: "Back porch is under new management new phone number 610-584-0600. And we make our burgers fresh!!!!!"

We were nervous walking in based on other reviews. Wife and I went for a nice Sunday breakfast. It opens at 9am and we got there at about 10. We were the only people there... and the smell of cigarette stench filled the air. The kind of feeling like we wish we could get up and leave. We had to sit inside since it was wet out. The server took our order and it was so quiet in there we could hear the cooks conversations. And the cigarette smell was really annoying. Then the food started cooking and the aroma replaced the stench. It smelled great. I ordered the breakfast burrito and my wife had the veggie omelette. Both were very very good. Huge portions. As we were waiting a few more parties rolled in and they turned on background music. MUCH BETTER. So, all in all, I was very pleased with the product, the ambiance improved and I will plan a return visit soon. Look forward to sitting outside. Oh, and like another reviewer stated...next door is Mals Diner. We have frequently gone there for breakfast but now we will will hit the BPC instead, until we have a bad experience.

I had dinner with a group of friends the other night at the Back Porch Cafe. I really have nothing good to say except that it use to be good. Our night started with wine glasses covered in lipstick marks, all eight of the glasses. Our server was nice but didn't seemed too please with the amount of champagne and wine we brought. It was our friends birthday so it was a celebration. We ordered some appetizers which I thought were pretty generic, mussels and scallops wrapped in bacon. The mussels were good but the bacon on the scallop was totally raw and tasted like it came out of a freezer bag from Costco. I shared a Phyllo wrapped Brie salad and Lobster Ravioli with my friend. The ravioli was good but it was drowning in sauce. The salad. Ugh. I was hoping this was going to be a winner but I was wrong. I cut into the Brie and realized that the plastic wrap was never taken off and had been fried in the fryer in the plastic. I told my server, who took it away and never apologized or asked me if I wanted something else and left it on our check! Everyone Else's food was mediocre. We did have to send back one dish that had so much garlic in it, it wasn't even edible. Here is the kicker. One of the girls, earlier in the day dropped off desserts from Whole Foods with specific instructions taped to the box. The server followed all the directions except only brought out 7 of the 8 mini tarts that were in the box. We confronted her about it and her response was, "Well, I didn't eat it". Someone actually ate one of the desserts we brought. How pathetic. The food was completely overpriced! There are so many good restaurants in Skippack, unfortunately this is not one of them. It is nice that it's a BYOB but you can go to the Hotel or Parc Bistro and get outstanding food for less the price. Sorry Back Porch but you need to step it up.

This place is great. Amidst all of Skippack's restaurants where a glass of wine is $10 and up, this cozy little BYOB offers fantastic Italian and American dishes that are tasty and reasonable. I have been here twice since the management has changed. Each time, our service was wonderful and the meals delicious. The stuffed chicken is excellent. I love love love the goat cheese salad, and my husband had the rigatoni pasta dish, which was also excellent. All the ingredients tasted very fresh. If you're looking for a BYOB with a nice relaxing atmosphere, this is the place to go in Skippack.

Ate here for lunch w/ my wife yesterday. Had a very different experience from previous two reviewers. We at late, so it wasn't very busy. We sat outside, which was very nice. I had the club sandwich and my wife got the cajun chicken sandwich. Both were $8.95, I believe. I didn't find the portions small at all. They were huge sandwiches with side salads. Everything tasted very fresh. In fact, it was one of the better club sandwiches I've ever tasted. Not your run of the mill ham, bacon, and lettuce deal. It had field greens and hard boiled egg in it and was served on delicious thick bread (can't remember what kind of bread it was). Many reviews here and on other sites complained about the service being slow. Again, there weren't many people there when I was in, but my food arrived in a normal amount of time. Overall a very enjoyable experience and recommended.

Absolutely horrible! Service was terrible. Brushetta appetizer was appalling. Baked Tillapia had no flavor whatsoever. This used to be my favorite restaurant because of the beautiful outdoor patio with lights and flowers everywhere and was completely disappointed..
